With the successful acquisition and implementation of the Oxy3, the BAYERNOIL industrial fire brigade is taking a significant step toward modern operational hygiene and sustainable health protection.
In early August, the industrial fire brigade of BAYERNOIL Raffineriegesellschaft mbH received its new Oxy3 decontamination system. This marks another important milestone toward improved operational hygiene and long-term health protection. Staff training took place on August 20 – the system is now in active use.
The challenge: Contaminated PPE despite washing
The BAYERNOIL fire brigade already operates a professional washing system for personal protective equipment (PPE), placing it ahead of many other fire services. In some volunteer fire brigades, turnout gear is still washed privately together with everyday laundry.

But even professional washing is not sufficient to reliably remove harmful substances. Practical experience and scientific studies show that PPE can still smell unpleasant after washing and often retains significant levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Even more critical: when multiple sets are washed together, cross-contamination can occur — meaning that some items may end up more contaminated after washing than before.
A study by the Instituut Fysieke Veiligheid (IFV) found that after washing firefighting gear, up to 85% of contaminants may remain in the PPE.
PPE sets washed | Residual contamination |
|---|---|
1 set | 20 % |
2 sets | 60 % |
3 sets | 85 % |

Optimal solution for BAYERNOIL
For BAYERNOIL’s requirements, our Oxy3 decontamination system is the ideal complement. The system ensures that PPE is truly free of odours and residues after washing.
It operates fully automatically, leaves no residues, requires no additional chemicals, and decontaminates three sets at once — ensuring health protection, legal compliance and functional reliability of the equipment.
Flexible, modular, versatile

The Oxy3 system meets all the demands of modern fire services:
Stationary use in the decontamination cabinet – modular setup for textiles, helmets, boots and many other items.
Mobile use at the emergency vehicle – deployable directly on site.
Both harmful substances and odours are reliably eliminated — fully automatically and without additional chemicals.
A complete success: delivery, training & implementation
With the successful delivery and implementation of the Oxy3, the BAYERNOIL industrial fire brigade sends a strong signal: for modern operational hygiene, for the safety of its personnel and for a future-proof organisation. Collaboration with BAYERNOIL was extremely productive, and participants expressed high satisfaction with our product training and the system’s straightforward operation.
Present at the handover and training were Albert Egerer, deputy head of the industrial fire brigade, as well as the future primary operators. The implementation was supported by Wolfgang Staber and Wolfgang Zankl (both Oxy3) and Berthold Birnthaler (Sales Bavaria).
